Treatment For Teens Is Geared At Their Age Group

Treatment For Teens | Paradigm Malibu

One of the most important things to know about drug and alcohol treatment for teens is that it will be geared toward the intended age group. Treatment centers are aware that teens and adults are in very different places, both intellectually and emotionally. They are not the same, so why should they be given the same treatment? In order for the program to be effective, it has to connect with the person directly.

For example, teens value their friends to a tremendous degree; in many cases, they will feel like their friends are more important than their family members. Adults, on the other hand, tend to be more independent. They know who they are, so they are not defined by their friends. What this means, though, is that teens will be more concerned with pleasing their friends than adults will. Teen treatment really needs to center around taking them out of that environment and showing them that their worth is not defined by other people. This will be the first step toward helping them recover.

When considering treatment for teens in your life, such as your son or your daughter, talk to the center about what they will do specifically for your child. Find out if they will do things differently depending on what age group they are working with. You may even be able to talk to the people at the center to find out what you can do that fits with this program to help your child during this time.
